In 1974, Sato Corporation developed the world's first printer capable of printing barcodes and OCR characters. Since then, the company has remained at the forefront of the industry worldwide, continuing to develop and market a full range of barcode printers, and supplying instore marking systems for POS (point of sale) applications in the retail sector. Among methods for automating computer data input, bar codes have proven to be a medium for inputting information that satisfies all requirements, including high reading speed, incomparable accuracy, low cost, and the ease with which data can be reconfigured and altered by hand. Barcodes have therefore gone into widespread use in a variety of business sectors. Recognising this, Sato Corporation has developed barcode printers for industrial and distribution applications. The mainstay of our current product line, the Scantronics Printer, has gained widespread support from many customers in widely different fields, consolidating the company's position as a leader in barcode systems.
